New Poll finds French Hill Losing a District Gerrymandered for the Republican Incumbent

LITTLE ROCKThe 2nd Congressional District was drawn four years ago to protect French Hill by dividing Little Rock’s black neighborhoods between three different congressional districts.

It doesn’t appear to be working.

“They forgot to draw out people who are angry about rising prices and endless wars,” says Chris Jones, the Democratic nominee.

Most remarkably, the initial horse race numbers (46 for Jones vs. 43 for Hill) were gathered before any information was shared about the candidates, besides name and party affiliation. The numbers were then weighted in the GOP’s favor, according to party performance in past elections. Still, the evidence shows that French Hill, chairman of the powerful House Financial Services Committee, is taking much of the blame for the economic crisis.

Jones himself is not surprised. “Are you shocked that people aren’t dying to vote for the most powerful banker in Congress? In this economy? This is evidence of enthusiasm for a new direction in this district.”

Hill’s approval is underwater, -11 points, with President Trump at (-11) and Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders at (-9).

“This is not about the partisan or racial composition of this district. French Hill has alienated voters across the spectrum, including Republicans and Independents.”

In light of recent gerrymandering fights across the South, this poll reveals the inherent flaw in the process: that in addition to being unfair, it’s endless.

“Ultimately, people will vote their interests,” said Jones, “Arkansans know when a system has stopped working for them,” said Jones. “And when families are hurting, when prices keep rising, when people feel ignored, they don’t care nearly as much about political games. They care about who is willing to fight for them.

The poll was conducted by 2040 Strategy Group and surveyed 660 respondents between April 28 and May 8, 2026.
